Welcome to
THE MEN INTO NURSING TOGETHER (MINT)

Welcome to Men Into Nursing Together (MINT). Our website is dedicated to providing a supportive, engaging, and safe space for all healthcare professionals and those aspiring to join this vital and rewarding profession.

Since its creation, the MINT team has visited schools across Yorkshire, attended careers events, and collaborated with careers advisors to demonstrate that nursing is a profession open to everyone, regardless of gender. These efforts aim to challenge outdated perceptions such as “You can’t be a nurse, you’re a man.”

We’ve also been fortunate to feature on BBC Radio 2 and in local news segments, showcasing our mission to break down stigmas surrounding men in nursing, challenge the notion that nursing is a gendered profession, and promote diversity - affirming that not all male nurses are homosexual.

From day one, MINT has welcomed members from across the globe who share our vision and have supported our charitable efforts, including fundraising for Diabetes UK and Movember, with plans for further initiatives.

In 2022, MINT partnered with Provide Community, which became its first sponsor. This collaboration aims to raise awareness of healthcare careers as inclusive and accessible to all, regardless of gender.

Our Story

In 2018, lecturers at Sheffield Hallam University requested a meeting with male nursing students after noticing a trend of students leaving the degree before completion. Their aim was to explore how this could be addressed.

The initial meeting included six students and two members of staff. During this discussion, Men in Nursing Together (MINT) was formed. While it initially aimed to support men in their studies, it soon became clear that there were greater ambitions ahead.

Since 2018, MINT has undergone a name change to Men Into Nursing Together to reflect its inclusive nature. MINT is not solely for men; it is a community of healthcare professionals committed to encouraging more people to consider nursing as a career.
